The Old Orchard Beach Surge (6-3) defeated the visiting New Hampshire Wild (1-7) with a 5-4 comeback win on Saturday night at The Ballpark.
The Surge took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning, with right fielder Shaun Cooper scoring on a passed ball. The Wild would tie it in the 5th, with shortstop Mark McCouch picking up an RBI.
The Wild would take a 4-1 lead in the 7th inning. First baseman Ramon Cedeno began the scoring with a solo homerun. Right fielder Karl Kapinos would score, stealing home, on a throw down to 2nd base. A Richard Colla sac fly would end the scoring for the inning.
Rich Baerga took over the mound for starter Benny Collesano in the 7th inning. Collesano went for 6.1 innings, allowing 3 hits and 3 runs while walking 4 and striking out 5. Baerga would stay in for .1 inning, walking 4, before being replaced by Cody Frank.
Left fielder Bryan White would walk in the 7th, stealing 2nd and 3rd, for his 5th stolen bases of the season. He would score on a Dan Gagnon RBI, bringing the Surge within 2 runs.
The Surge would rally back in the 8th. Jacob Fabry and Joshua Martinez would reach base on walks, while first baseman Chris Allen reached on a single. White would knock a bases clearing triple, with 2 outs, to give the Surge a 5-4 lead.
Joshua Martinez would transition from the designated hitter to closing pitcher in the 9th, ending the night for Frank. Frank went for 1.1 inning, allowing 0 hits and striking out 2, earning his 2nd win of the season. Martinez allowed 1 hit and struck out 2, while earning his 3rd save.
Each team had 4 hits, with Bryan White leading the Surge with 2. Chris Allen picked up his league leading 8th stolen base of the season.
The Surge return to action Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm for game 5 of their series with the Wild.
