LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY – The Old Orchard Beach Surge have clinched a playoff spot and home field advantage for this years Empire League Championship as they have won the second half and also finished in first place overall.
Although the Surge didn’t finish the season how they wanted to finish losing the final series of 7 to the last place Explorers, the Surge were ahead enough to clinch the first place overall and second half.
The Surge will compete in the playoffs without star outfielder Edgar Lebron and Matt Picucci who departed early as they moved up to play at higher levels, but with the Empire League allowing 2 reinforcements for each team in the Playoffs, the Surge have received a very good infielder and hitter in Edwin Arroyo of the Puerto Rico Islanders as well as the leagues leader in Home Runs in Jacob Bissell. In replacement for Picucci, The Surge will aslo get James Mulry from the Sullivan Explorers.
Playoffs are set to start on the 22nd and 23rd at 4:30pm in Plattsburgh against the RedBirds who were first half winners for the first 2 games in the best of 5 series, and will have the opportunity to win it at home in Old Orchard Beach for the final 3 games of the series if necessary on the 24th, 25th and 26th at 6:30pm at the Ballpark.
Tickets will be on sale at the gate of the event. Come out and support the Surge as the team plays for their first ever Championship Series!
