OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME – The Old Orchard Beach Surge defeated the Plattsburgh RedBirds in Game 3 of the finals by the score of 6 to 4.
The game started off strong for the Surge as they got 2 quick runs on several hits off Redbirds starter Matti Doexter. Doexter would then be taken out of the game in the second inning as manager Joe Winkelsas chose to use up pitchers for only a couple of innings or specific pitch count to be able to use them multiple times throughout the series.
The Surge would score up to 6 runs but as the RedBirds have proven to be a comeback team, down 6-1 in the 7th once again the RedBirds rallied to put the score 6-4. The RedBirds had an opportunity to tie the game as they had runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs but clutch pitching by Surge starter Mark Hendricks kept the RedBirds from catching up. James Mulry would come in and would get the save for the Surge.
Game 4 of the finals will be played tonight at 6:30pm at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach. Tickets are available at the gate. RedBirds lead the series (2-1) and are one win away from winning the Empire League Championship. Surge will have to win tonight to extend this series to the 5th and final game.
