OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME – The New York Bucks defeated the Old Orchard Beach Surge in Empire Professional Baseball League play Wednesday night.
The Bucks scored 6 in the top of the 4th while down 5-1 and never looked back. Third baseman Peyton Deiters led the Bucks’ offense with a solo shot, culminating in a 2-3 game in which he got on base four times. Center fielder Kenneth Collins had a 3-4 game including a 3-bagger. Shortstop Joshua Martinez went 0-2 but drove in 2 runs with two sacrifice flies.
The Surge scored 4 in the bottom of the 3rd but came up short after failing to record a hit from after the 4th inning.
Second baseman John Tierney went 2-5 with two doubles and two runs scored while driving in one.
Left fielder Nick McHugh also went 2-5, driving in one on a sacrifice fly and scoring once. He was also hit by a pitch.
Tanner Klein got the starting nod for the Bucks, pitching 3 innings and giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 4 hits with 2 walks.
Alejandro Rodriguez started for Old Orchard, giving up 6 runs on 5 hits, walking 3 and striking out 2.
John Tierney, Nick McHugh, and Daniel Dominguez each had 2 hits a piece for the Surge. After Wednesday night’s loss, the Surge now have 7-5 record on the season.
